the week that was

October 11, 2008

Tuesday morning made some lavender squares out of doilies. Filled them Wednesday night.

Didn’t make anything on Wednesday, Thursday but on Friday went to see the Yinka Shonibare MBE exhibition at the MCA. In the spiel it says “Shonibare explores ideas about contemporary African identity, the legacy of colonialism, class structures and social justice”. Well I don’t know about that but the fabrics were deelish.

Today I made a bag for Stephanie from a Japanese book. I started at about 9.30 this morning and finished at 2pm. It was a protoptype for one I intend to make for myself …oneday.

Some left over d’olie edging fron Tuesdays efforts adds a touch of whimsy to this otherwise plain pocket.

Here is the mess I now have to clean up.

What a treat. Thank you Victoria - they are truly special. They will be going up on my wall as soon as I find the right frames for them.

up for air

June 29, 2008

I’ve almost forgotten how to do this caper.
Have been buried up to the proverbial with reading and essay writing. Interesting but sometimes I stopped and thought to myself, what a load of old bollocks.

I have had this on my list to do for about 2 years and finally got around to doing last night. These are two pillow cases made into one bag - obviously. No pattern, just squares and rectangles sewn together.

Now I’m off to read about Baroque or some such thing. I will hopefully be back soon.

My two lovies.

I love and adore them.

Experimenting with prints.

Friday archives

May 9, 2008

From 1988 archives a painted picture. I enlarged it by the old graph method from a postage stamp size picture in a magazine. I still have the paints that I did it with and actually used them again the other night. Fine brushwork if I do say so myself. Do not adjust your eyes, there is a huge white gap here and please excuse the 4 people on bloglines who have read this post three times already as I keep changing it.

Black ink, I think I’m over you. So harsh. I want fluffiness to think about. Soft thread and fabric.
I am a bit relieved though that I am on track with my first submission, these are part of lino cut series. Something satisfying about gouging out lino.

lino-ing

Just an experimemt.

Now I will go thread a needle and sooth myself with a bit of stitching.

A productive day.  Horrid Sydney Easter weather though.

I made an artists book.

to put stuff in

And some experiments. I wont be tortured tonight going to sleep, as I feel I achieved somethings today.

doing prints

anyhow………

March 20, 2008

What happened there? I think I have been in some parallel universe and missed a month on earth.
Doing a bit of art in inverted commas. I’m really going to have to get stuck into it this weekend being Easter. This may look like a child’s drawing. That’s because it is. I copied it from my daughter who drew it when she was about 5. I needed something simple to begin the printing process. Something I loved.

pfff...art

The following two pictures are from a book called The General from 1961. Got it at the opshop for 50c. Real groovy baby illustrations.

the general

It came at an opportune moment though. I have spoken a couple of times about the Mr. here on the blog. He is aka Mark. I have renamed him. He is now going to be referred to as The Little General (TLG).
Earlier this week we waved him goodbye as he joined the Army. Initially for three months training, after that who knows. So this book is a reminder to me of this time. The story is quite apt too. Smelling the roses type of thing. Good stuff.

here I go

February 22, 2008

Its been a good week for mail. First the Brown Owls package arrived  and I have to say it was like opening a lolly bag at a party. Good fun.

And secondly my uni stuff came today. Kerikeys. I will admit I am more than a little nervous. I have a lot of self doubt (really, no I don’t, sometimes, alot of times) and try to hide behind my fear with bad humour, ha ha . See!
I have to read things that don’t include pictures and do really serious things instead of just fluffing around. Gulp.

no doubts

January 18, 2008

In November last year whilst fluffing around on the computer one Saturday morning I came across …in my spare time. I started getting butterflies in my tummy as I read her entries about art and uni. I emailed Jan, something I don’t think I’ve ever done, to enquire about her course. She replied, which was kind and a kinda shock because I thought she might think I was some sort of wacko. So to cut along story short, I have enrolled in open university , to do arts. Eeek how exciting and nerve-racking.
As a remembrance of this momentous occasion I thought I would treat myself to a present and I bought one of her books. I have little secret remembrances scattered all around the house that I only know about.
I think I have received a bonus card too in the deal, thank-you. Of course it wont be used. It will be a secret remembrance too.
